Between the Pipes: A Recap of the AOA体育平台 Hockey Invitational
Jan. 20, 2017
It’s the company hockey tournament by which all others like it shall be judged.
Four teams. One cup.
It’s the AOA体育平台 Hockey Invitational.
Last week’s annual hockey round-robin brought Breakthru’s best hockey players to Chicago for a two-day tournament to determine 2017’s keepers of the cup. This year’s edition of Breakthru’s winter classic, which was held at the Bobby Hull Community Ice Rink and at the United Center–home of the Chicago Blackhawks, featured a roster of talented players lacing up the skates from 10 different Breakthru states, and including players from the corporate office in New York as well as four Canadian provinces.
As the pucks began to drop on day one, which was serendipitously on Friday the 13th (no Jason Voorhies masks were donned during gameplay), the four teams–Star Nosed Moles, The Blackbirds, The Grinders and Uncle Eddie’s Purple Teeth—crashed the net and wowed the Breakthru faithful in attendance with hockey action that was always at full strength, and overall gameplay that can be described as somewhere between a friendly exhibition and a total gongshow.
Sadly, only one team would be the star of the show, and that was the Star Nosed Moles. The championship team was led by Kevin Roberts and David Lockie, a player/coach combo resembling a modern day Charlie Conway and Gordon Bombay. Assisting on the bench was Will Wasserman, whose war room wisdom helped guide the Moles to the top of the mountain.
While the Star Nosed Moles were this year’s big winners, a big congratulations to the three talented runner ups for a terrific effort.
One more thank you goes out to all of the Breakthru associates who helped organize and produce another memorable edition of this hockey tournament!
